Multi-tasking, does it really work?
As a working mother I am often torn between numerous personalities, employee, director, mum, friend, wife and am often forced into a multi-tasking frenzy to achieve everything I want to achieve in a day and still get 5 minutes to myself. Dr Adam Fraser, guest speaker at the Business Chicks (www.businesschicks.com.au) monthly breakfast last week, says he doesn't believe in multi-tasking and that it slows down the effectiveness of the brain. We need to learn to chunk out the day into specific task related sections and close down our email to prevent constant interruptions. So I am attempting to do that, but in an open plan environment interruptions are part of every day. What I do know is, that to create focus and effectiveness, we need to be healthy and happy, so I get up at 4am to go cycling, when else I am going to fit it in?? Health and fitness takes discipline.
New mums returning to the workforce are the most at risk, and in current economic times they are often forced to return to the workforce very soon after the birth of their baby. We need more support services that help mums regain their pre-pregnancy health and vitality quickly, and Embracing Motherhood is one of those. How I wish knew of www.embracingmotherhood.com when I had children. Check it out!
